While realizing D·ENERGY, numerous tests were carried out to verify the actual signal strength. Here are some of them.


1. Historic building, each floor was about 4.5 m high, total floors 14 (electricity meters were located in the basement, floor -2).

  • The first test carried out was the following: D · ENERGY located on the ground floor, DiCE SMART located in the corridor on different levels. This allowed us to estimate the maximum distance without adding any other barrier, i.e. the basement

Result: Stable signal up to 9 floors (about 40 meters haight).

  • The second test carried out was the following: D · ENERGY located on floor -2 (electricity meter room), DiCE SMART located in the office on the 6th floor. This allowed us to estimate the quality of the connection in a real case, placing DiCE SMART inside the house and the D · ENERGY on the electricity meter. The total distance is almost 8 floors.

Result: Stable communication.


2. Newly built building, reinforced concrete structure, each floor was about 3 m high, total floors 21 (electricity meters located in the basement, floor -2, not accessible).

  • The test carried out was as follows: D · ENERGY placed in the corridors of different floors (south side), DiCE SMART placed in the office on the opposite side (north side).

Result: stable signal on the 5th floor, unstable on the 6th floor.


The reinforced concrete structure, the position of the devices and the possible interference had a significant impact on the tests performed at the historic building in Piazza Vittoria. In any case, the distances reached are still in line with what was expected.

3. Condominium located in the historic center, old structure, each floor was about 4 m high, 5 floors in total (electricity meters on the ground floor).


  • The test carried out was as follows: D · ENERGY on the -1 floor (in order to increase the overall distance), DiCE SMART on the 4th floor. This allowed us to estimate the quality of the connection in a real case, placing DiCE SMART inside the home. The test distance is comparable to 5 floors.

Result: Stable communication.


4. Open field test:


Measured value: about 250 meters.


From the 100th meter on, the transmitter and receiver were no longer in LOS (Line Of Sight) and the presence of some buildings compromised the measurement. The test was however considered reliable as in real cases there is always an obstacle represented by the electricity meter cabin.
